Welcome to California! It’s going to be a thrilling 14-day adventure in one of the most beautiful states in the USA.
Upon arrival, breathe in the fresh ocean air. Usually, the weather here is sunny and warm during the day and cool and breezy at night. You are sure to enjoy exploring the diverse landscapes of this amazing state, from bustling cities to peaceful forests. There are plenty of trails to explore, so make sure you bring comfortable shoes for hiking. If you’re planning to swim in the Pacific Ocean, be sure to bring swimwear.
Day 1-2: San Francisco

Welcome to San Francisco! San Francisco is the starting point for your 14 days in charming California. Upon your arrival in this vibrant and diverse city, you’ll immediately feel the excitement. You will get to see the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, and colorful Victorian houses as you explore the city.
Additionally, you’ll discover San Francisco’s unique culture and cuisine. So get ready to immerse yourself in the city’s charm and discover what makes it so special.
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring San Francisco
Once you arrive at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), you’ll first want to get to your hotel. There are several options for transportation, including private shuttles like Lorrie’s or Super Shuttle, which offer discounts for round-trip bookings. You can also enjoy the convenience of the BART, the city’s train service, which will quickly and efficiently transport you downtown.
Once you’re settled in at your hotel, it’s time to explore the city!
Fisherman’s Wharf

On your first day here you simply cannot miss riding the iconic cable cars. Hop on one and enjoy the scenic ride all the way to Fisherman’s Wharf. Take in the breathtaking views of the city as you climb up and down the hills.
Alcatraz Island

Next, head to Alcatraz Island. A trip to Island is one of the most rewarding experiences when visiting San Francisco. Ride the ferry across San Francisco Bay and enjoy the scenic views. Once you arrive at Alcatraz Island, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the exhibits and check out the video presentations or audio tours.
North Beach Neighborhood

After a visit to Alcatraz, head over to the North Beach neighborhood. This vibrant area is known for its Italian-American history and culture. Stroll through the charming streets, pop into quirky boutiques, and grab a coffee or gelato.
Ferry Building Marketplace

When it’s time for dinner, head to the Ferry Building Marketplace, this unique spot is a feast for both your eyes and your taste buds, with colorful art installations and various food trucks serving delicious food. Relax and take your time as you enjoy the fun and lively atmosphere.

Day 2: More of San Francisco

Union Square
Start your day by exploring the Union Square area where you can shop around, grab breakfast at one of the nearby cafes or restaurants, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Golden Gate Park

If you’re looking for a fantastic place to explore in San Francisco, you can’t go wrong with Golden Gate Park. With over 1,000 acres of picturesque lakes, gardens, and museums, not to mention wild bison and even an albino alligator, there’s something for everyone to love.
Start by visiting the Conservatory of Flowers, which has an amazing collection of exotic plants and flowers. Afterward, check out the California Academy of Sciences for exhibits on outer space and marine life.

Just a short walk away, you can ride the SkyStar Observation Wheel and enjoy the city views from above. Take a stroll through the Japanese Tea Garden and Shakespeare Garden for a taste of tranquility amid the bustle.

Golden Gate Bridge

Next, head over to the Golden Gate Bridge where you can walk, bike, or even drive across the iconic structure. It’s best to plan ahead and make sure to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

Next, proceed to Alamo Square to witness the picturesque skyline and the Painted Ladies’ Victorian mansions. This spectacular hilltop park is an ideal spot for taking photos.
After exploring Alamo Square, you must be hungry and looking for a delicious dinner. Luckily, there are plenty of choices! Visit The Mill for some classic American cuisine. If you are looking for vegan or gluten-free options, Nopalito Mexican restaurant is incredible.
Day 3: The Napa Valley
Day 3 is about wine and food in the most well-known wine region of the world-Napa Valley. You have the opportunity to explore some of the most famous wineries here.

Start your day at the Napa Valley Welcome Center, where you can pick up maps and brochures to help guide your journey. Then head to Oxbow Public Market to stock up on supplies before heading to wineries for tasting.
The first winery you should visit is Beringer Vineyards. It is one of the oldest wineries in Napa Valley. Take a tour of the estate to learn about the winery’s history and how its wines are made.
After that, indulge in a wine tasting. Next, you can visit the Stags’ Leap Winery. In addition to its delicious Cabernet Sauvignons, this winery is well known for its 19th-century manor house and beautiful grounds.
Dine at the French Laundry for lunch, a world-renowned restaurant known for its inventive cuisine, in the quaint town of Yountville. This is a three-Michelin-star restaurant with California cuisine that is sure to satisfy your palate.
Spend an afternoon touring the nearby Sonoma Valley and visiting the Benziger Family Winery. Visit the winery by tram and learn about their organic farming methods. Their award-winning wines are a great way to end your day.
Take in the beauty of the rolling hills and enjoy the scenic drive through this wine country.
Day 4: Lake Tahoe

After a night of tasting wine and food in Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature.
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at The Beacon Bar & Grill. Breakfast is served on their sun-drenched deck with a view of the crystal clear water of the lake. Visit the boat house after breakfast to rent a boat or jet ski and explore the lake’s pristine waters.

Heavenly Mountain Resort

It is breathtaking to see the panoramic views from 10,000 feet up in this resort! The gondola ride lasts about 12 minutes each way, giving you plenty of time to soak in the stunning surroundings. Once you reach the top, there are hiking, zip-lining, and ropes courses to enjoy. Winter visitors can experience world-class skiing and snowboarding on the slopes.
Rubicon Trail
Take an adventurous hike along the Rubicon Trail, a scenic 6-mile path with stunning lake views. After exploring the area for a long time, you can relax in the warm waters of the Calistoga hot springs.

Day 5:Gold Country

Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park

Start by heading to Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park, where you can explore the old gold mining town and see remnants of hydraulic mining techniques. The park offers several hiking trails that take you through the lush green hills and showcase breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Preston Castle

If you’re interested in history and architecture, be sure to visit Preston Castle. This Gothic-style castle was built in 1894 and served as a reform school until 1960. The castle now offers tours; you can learn about its dark past while exploring its grand halls.
Black Chasm Cavern

Day 6: Yosemite

It is easy to find a place to dine in Yosemite, as it has an excellent selection of restaurants. A favorite is the Ahwahnee Lodge, with its magnificent dining room and stunning views. Day 7: Monterey
Day 7 of your California vacation will be spent in Monterey. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and culture of this lovely town.
Cannery Row

You can start by taking a stroll along Cannery Row, where you’ll find many charming shops and restaurants. Cannery Row is also home to the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, with plenty of exhibits and activities to keep you entertained for hours. There are also several art galleries and cozy hotels around, so you can stay and explore to your heart’s content.
Monterey State Historic Park
It is worth it to visit the Monterey State Historic Park. You can explore the historic homes and buildings that dot Old Monterey on a journey through time. With hour-long guided history tours available, you can learn about the rich history of California that has taken place right here. Wandering through the park, you’ll discover gardens and buildings dating back to the 17th century. And, as a National Landmark and part of the Monterey Old Town Historic District, you’ll explore a truly special and unique part of California’s past.

Bay Area
The city has a variety of beaches to choose from, each with its unique charm. If you’re looking for a beach in the heart of the city, head to McAbee Beach or San Carlos Beach, which are located right off Cannery Row. Del Monte Beach is another great option located in Monterey, and it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying a picnic. If you want to explore further out, Asilomar State Beach offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and is perfect for activities like boating, fishing, and beachcombing.

Day 8: Carmel
This charming town is a must-see on your day 8 in California. With its ivy-covered buildings, cobblestone paths, and colorful facades, it’s an idyllic place to relax and enjoy strolling down Ocean Avenue and exploring world-famous galleries and boutiques.

Start your day by visiting Carmel Beach. It is a stunning beach with soft white sand and turquoise waters. From there, you can enjoy a stroll along Ocean Avenue, which is lined with art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants.

For a taste of history, visit the Carmel Mission, a historic Spanish-style church with beautiful gardens and exhibits.

The Carmel Mission has played a vital role in California’s cultural heritage since it was founded in 1771. It is located deep in the Del Monte Forest in Carmel. As you arrive, you’ll be met with the stunning beauty of the surrounding countryside and more than 27 miles of marked equestrian trails.
What makes this center truly unique is its use of rescue horses for trail rides. Your ride fee is directed towards giving these horses a happy home. Enjoy the spectacular views along the way as you ride through the forest. Day 9: Big Sur

The Point Sur Lighthouse is a must-see when you’re in Big Sur! It’s a breathtaking experience to walk up the 360 feet elevation and explore the only complete turn-of-the-century lighthouse open to the public in California.

Point Lobos State Natural Reserve

Point Lobos is one of the most popular sites to visit on Big Sur. A state wildlife park offers the ultimate coastal trinity of marine creatures, rocky coastlines, and endless views. We recommend you hike the entire 6.7-mile loop around the peninsula. You will see coves, cypress and pine forests, tide pools, flower-filled meadows in spring, migrating gray whales in winter, and sea lions. Visit the admission kiosk for information about guided tours.
If you don’t have much time, the South Shore Trail or the Cypress Grove Trail are viable options.
Garappata State Park

This park features two miles of beachfront, marine creatures, and unique vegetation. The most popular route around the cliff is the 1.8-mile Soberanes Point trail. If you want something more challenging, you can travel inland on the 5.4-mile Soberanes Canyon route, which features redwoods and expansive views.
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and Mcway Falls
Another must-visit attraction is Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, where you can hike among the redwoods and see the iconic McWay Falls.

Day 10: Santa Barbara

We recommend starting your day by taking a self-guided walking tour of the city. This will allow you to experience the city more intimately and at your own pace. Take State Street as a starting point for your journey through the city. It’s a pedestrian-friendly zone that’s unique and charming for tourists and locals alike. As you stroll down the spacious 10-block walkway between Sola and Gutierrez, you’ll find a variety of premium boutiques, tasty food options, and live entertainment venues.
Along the way, you’ll see many architectural icons, such as the Santa Barbara County Courthouse and the Santa Barbara Mission. Take a stop to appreciate some of Santa Barbara’s breathtaking views, such as seaside vistas from East Beach.

These are two beautiful beach communities within Santa Barbara, California, known for their quiet ambiance and stunning views. Summerland is a lovely community with modest stores and art galleries, while Montecito is home to magnificent residences, high-end shopping, and fantastic eating options.

Visiting Santa Barbara pier and Sterns Wharf is a real treat. There are so many things to do here! You can begin your day by strolling along the pier, taking in the beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. At the end of the pier, you’ll find Sterns Wharf, where you can enjoy delicious seafood and visit shops. Kayaking and paddleboarding in the ocean are also options if you’re feeling adventurous.
One of the finest dining experiences in Santa Barbara is at the many local restaurants. If you’re in the mood for seafood, head towards the harbor and try the fish tacos at Brophy Bros. Or try the oysters at The Lark. On State Street, you’ll find a wide array of eateries, such as The Palace Grill, which serves classic cajun cuisine. Day 11-12: Los Angeles

Day 11: First Day in Los Angeles
Malibu Beaches
Welcome to Malibu, where the sun, sand, and surf await you!

When it comes to choosing which beach to visit, you really can’t go wrong. Topanga State Beach, located along PCH at Topanga Canyon Blvd, is a great place to start. This beach offers easy access and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the sun and sand.
If you’re seeking a quintessential Malibu beach, make sure to check out Point Dume State Beach and Preserve. This stunning stretch of coastline offers breathtaking views, great surf, and plenty of opportunities for exploration.

Zuma Beach is another must-visit destination, with its long white sandy shoreline and excellent waves for swimming and surfing. Unlike some of the more secluded beaches in the area, access to Zuma is very easy, so be sure to add it to your beach-hopping itinerary.

Next on your list is Hollywood Boulevard. This street is home to the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, where you’ll find more than 2,700 stars embedded in 15 blocks of piers. Plus, don’t forget to check out the Hollywood Hills and its giant sign, a must-see for anyone visiting the area.

In the afternoon, we recommend taking a stroll on Santa Monica Pier, where you can admire the ocean and ride the Ferris wheel. End your day by catching the sunset on Venice Beach, known for its beautiful scenery and eclectic vibe.


Day 12: More of Los Angeles
Getty Center

Begin your day with a visit to the Getty Center, where you can admire exquisite art and architecture. You’re in for a treat visiting this spectacular museum, which houses artwork from the eighth to the twenty-first century. With over 134,000 square feet of space, there are lots of things to see and do. The Getty Center’s majestic architecture and gardens remain stunning even on cloudy or rainy days. Not to mention the stunning views of Los Angeles from the top of Sepulveda Pass. Take your time and enjoy the art and beauty around you.
After that, take a walk to the nearby Century City Mall for some shopping and lunch at Eataly, an Italian food marketplace with a variety of dining options.
Sunset Boulevard

If you’re looking for adventure in Los Angeles, Sunset Boulevard is the place to go. Enjoy a show at the Troubadour music venue or dine at the Chateau Marmont for a luxurious experience. Explore the unique shopping options along the Sunset Strip or visit the Will Rogers State Beach with its miles of sandy shoreline perfect for sunbathing and swimming. There are also plenty of facilities, including volleyball courts and gymnastic equipment, making it the perfect spot for a day of fun in the sun.
Universal Studios

In the afternoon, visit Universal Studios Hollywood, where you can experience thrilling rides and attractions. Get ready for an exciting experience as you explore Hollywood’s most famous theme park and film studio. With over 400 acres of land, this movie-themed theme park and studio tour offers some of the most exciting rides and a behind-the-scenes look at Hollywood. There will be sets from popular movies and TV series, authentic movie-themed cuisine and drinks, and top Los Angeles stores for you to shop at.

Take a stroll through Balboa Park, which encompasses 17 museums, gardens, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Spend a day exploring the park, and checking out the exhibits and wildlife.

La Jolla Cove
If you’re into water activities, head to La Jolla Cove, a beautiful beach known for its clear waters and scenic cliffs. You can swim, snorkel, or relax on the sand.

Cabrillo National Monument

The monument offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the city skyline. Additionally, you’ll discover all about Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, the first European to set foot on the West Coast of the US. It’s a natural and historical wonder you shouldn’t miss!
Old Town

For a cultural experience, visit the Old Town, where you can see buildings dating back to the 1800s. You can try Mexican food in one of the many restaurants, and shop for souvenirs. Another must-see attraction is the USS Midway Museum, an aircraft carrier that’s been turned into a museum where you can learn about America’s military history.
