Day 1-3: Venice Italy
You’ve just landed at the Marco Polo Airport in Venice, Italy, and the excitement is palpable. After a long flight, you’re eager to explore the stunning landscape of Northern Italy.
The airport is conveniently located just 13 kilometers away from the city of Venice, making it a great starting point for your adventure.
Day 1: Explore Venice
Venice has many transportation options, including taxis, buses, and water taxis. Although water taxis can be quite expensive, they are one of the best ways to see a city.
This charming city has plenty of things to do, from exploring narrow alleyways and canals to tasting delicious local cuisine. So, take a deep breath and immerse yourself in the beauty, history, and culture of Never-Failing Northern Italy.
St. Mark’s Square
When you’re in Venice, you can’t miss starting at the center of it all – St. Mark’s Square. You’ll find some of the city’s most iconic buildings here, such as the Basilica San Marco and the Doge’s Palace. The Basilica is a marvel of Byzantine architecture, adorned with stunning mosaics and intricate details.

Day 2: Island Hop to Murano, Torcello, and Burano
Are you ready for an adventurous second day in Venice? Plan a trip to Murano, Torcello, and Burano, three of the most charming islands in the Venetian Lagoon.

Hop on the Vaporetto (water bus) and prepare for a day of exploring the island. First, head to Murano and explore this colorful island. Murano is famous for its artisan glass-making. Take a tour at the Museo del Vitro-Glass Museum and you’ll have the opportunity to witness master artisans create stunning works of art right before your eyes.

Don’t miss the chance to make your way to Torcello, a beautiful island in the Venetian Lagoon. Once you’re there, our top recommendations are, to see the Church of Santa Fosca and to cross the famous Ponte del Diavolo, also called the Devil’s Bridge. The bridge is the first attraction you’ll see in Torcello, and it’s worth it for the views alone.
After crossing the bridge, you can explore the island and marvel at the Byzantine mosaics at the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.

If you are a bike enthusiast, joining bike tours will lead you to venture through the city’s narrow streets. You will admire its unique beauty, and explore the surrounding countryside. You can also stop at local cafes and shops to taste Italian culture.

Start your day in Verona by visiting Castelvecchio. You can take an audio tour and learn about the museum’s paintings, restored wall decorations, objects, and weaponry.

Most bike, Segway, and walking tours of Verona follow Corso Castelvecchio across the Castelvecchio Bridge to the Castelvecchio Museum. You can also visit Teatro Romano, an ancient Roman theater and Archaeological Museum just down the hill, sitting near Ponte Pietra. It can be challenging to climb to the top of the tower, but the view is definitely worth it when you reach the top. It is also possible to take a convenient and transparent elevator to the top of the tower and admire its architectural beauty from above.

You’ve arrived in Bolzano, the perfect starting point for your adventure. Spend the day exploring the city’s historic center, with its beautiful architecture and charming streets. Visit the Duomo di Bolzano and the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, where you can see the famous mummy Ötzi.

On the second day of your Dolomite road trip, we highly recommend starting your day early with a visit to the stunningly beautiful Lake Carezza at sunrise. Early morning is the best time to view the emerald green hues of the lake and the gorgeous backdrop of the mountains because there are fewer people around and it’s quiet.

The hike to the lake takes around 25-30 minutes from the parking lot, but it’s a fairly easy trail. It’s worth it, as Lake Carezza is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Dolomites, and a must-visit destination in the South Tyrol region.
Before settling down for a beautiful sunrise experience, you can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake. Afterward, engage in various daytime activities near Lake Carezza like hiking, picnics, and photography.
Rent a paddleboat and explore the lake at your own pace for a more leisurely activity. Or, stroll through the nearby woods and discover the numerous waterfalls and streams that dot the landscape.

Here, you may explore a number of lovely routes, including the well-known Santa Maddalena Panorama Trail. You will be in awe of the breathtaking panoramic views on this 9.5-kilometer circuit. The hike starts in Santa Maddalena Village and ascends along a well-kept path to a panoramic vantage point. Along the route is the Church of Santa Maddalena, which provides a wonderful spiritual experience.
The entire trek lasts around an hour, but you can extend it by including a stop at the Santa Maddalena church. The trail is a wonderful opportunity for hikers to discover the splendor of the Dolomites up close.

As the day wears on, make your way to Alpe di Suisi for a breathtaking sunset. This is one of the best places to watch the sun go down in the entire Dolomites region. Take your time, snap some photos, and savor the moment. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more peaceful and tranquil experience anywhere else.

Day 8: Exploring Lake Sorapis and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
Day 4 of your Dolomites road trip is going to be breathtaking. You’re going to explore two of the most famous natural wonders in the area – Lake Sorapis and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Start your day with an early morning hike to Lake Sorapis, known for its crystal-clear turquoise water. The complete loop trail covers 13.2 kilometers and takes over 5 hours to complete. However, the stunning turquoise lake is a reward for all your efforts.

In the afternoon, drive to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, where you’ll hike through gorgeous trails surrounded by the signature jagged peaks that make the Dolomites so famous. The hike is 10 km long, and you can add additional detours to explore the area further.

Most people hike counter-clockwise from Rifugio Lavaredo, but you can also start at Rifugio Auronzo and circle the massif towards the east. The trail is generally easy to navigate, and there are many opportunities to take incredible photos along the way. You can even extend your hike to Misurina for a longer adventure.
If you’re looking for dining options near Tre Cime di Lavaredo, there are some great choices available. Pizzeria Monaco, Ristorante la Stadiera, and Boomerang are all highly recommended for their pleasant service and good food. However, if you’re on a tight budget, the huts in the area might be your best bet for more affordable lodging and traditional mountain cuisine
Day 9: Seceda Ridgeline and Passo Gardena
It’s time to explore the Seceda mountain range and Passo Gardena on day nine of your 21-day vacation through Northern Italy and day five of your road trip to the Dolomites.

As soon as you board the cable car, you’ll be transported on a picturesque ride over three sections of gondolas and cableways that will take you to Cima Faloria and provide you with unrivaled panoramic views of the surrounding mountain range.
Cortina d’Ampezzo Easy Hikes
If you are looking for easy hikes and walks do the hike from Cortina to Lake Pianozes. Not only are the views of Cortina and the Dolomites stunning, but this hike is also suitable for a pram or stroller. The picturesque lake Pianozes can be reached from the center of Cortina via a dirt road that’s easy to navigate.
Besides the Lake Pianozes walk, there are plenty of other easy hikes in Cortina d’Ampezzo, including a walk to the old railway and the Pian de Spines walk.
With over 400 kilometers of signposted footpaths and hiking trails through meadows, forests, mountain lodges, and Alpine lakes, Cortina d’Ampezzo offers adventures for all hiking enthusiasts.
Even an e-bike can be rented to experience the amazing mountain trails. There are various places to rent electric bikes in the town center, but make sure to make a reservation by calling in advance. Try the 30-km-long bike trail from Cortina to Dobbiaco for a less strenuous ride and take in the tranquil woodlands and valleys.
To refuel your energy, head to Corso Italia, which is home to a variety of cafes, wine bars, and restaurants with terraces from which to take in the scenery while drinking a hot cup of cocoa or wine.

In addition, you can visit the famous art museum, Pinacoteca di Brera, and the Santa Maria delle Grazie Church, home to the Leonardo Da Vinci painting, The Last Supper. Get active by visiting the main spots of Milan which are within walking distance, dine in style in the trendy Navigli area, and shop luxuriously at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

We will take you to the center of Milan and to its most iconic attractions on your first day.

When in Milan, visiting the Piazza del Duomo is a must! It is one of the most visited parts of the city. This is the heart of the city, and home to the biggest church in Italy, Duomo di Milano. Also, a monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II is situated here. But do you know that it took hundreds of years to complete? Originally created in the 14th century, it developed gradually, along with the Duomo, which took about six centuries to complete.

Milan’s cultural heritage can be seen in it, as it tells a story of faith and art for over six centuries. Be sure to arrive early to see Santa Maria delle Grazie Church, next door. For the viewing, you’ll be taken to a specially designed room where the painting is kept.
Please plan your viewing time accordingly, as viewing times are limited to 30 people every 15 minutes. This beautiful work of art, “Cenacolo Vinciano,” is hidden behind a refectory wall. You’ll be amazed by its beauty and detail.
